Sims University is located in Tampa, Florida and sponsored by Sims Crane & Equipment. Sims has been the leader in the crane and rigging industry in Florida for more than 60 years with 15 locations throughout the state. The team at Sims has over 250 CCO-certified operators including riggers and flagmen.

Classes at Sims U take place in a new classroom facility that can accommodate up to 20 students with a modular arrangement.  The Sims U training program is 16 weeks of focused classroom training designed to build career and life skills, including CDL driver training, rigger and signalman certification, hand-ons crane setup and operation, financial planning strategy and most of all a culture of teamwork.

The Sims U facility also features two virtual reality simulation stations that allow students to practice the basic functions of crane operations in a controlled, safe and simulated environment. The simulators use Oculus Rift and allow the instructor to design scenarios focused on specific skills and tasks students may encounter in the field.

 

In addition, Sims U features a green-screen virtual set film studio, which will allow for the production of more educational content for digital learning.
